Spring time in the Southern Highlands is a gorgeous time of year, as gardens transform into beds of colour. Now I’m not normally one for going to visit public gardens to admire all the flowers ……. maybe I don’t fit the typical demographic (no offence to those that do!), but last year I happened to be visiting my parents for a few days when the Tulip Festival was on in Bowral and I thought I would tag along for the fun.
We happened to catch the opening day of the festival, which kicked off with a huge parade down the main street in Bowral complete with horse drawn carriages, vintage cars, marching bands and other local groups. My son who was 17 months at the time, thought it was fantastic!!
Once the parade was over, we headed to Corbett Gardens to see the amazing array of tulips on display. We couldn’t have picked a nicer day for it, with the sun in its full glory. I have to admit tulips are my favourite flowers, so while this was something that I wouldn’t have driven all the way from Sydney especially for, I really enjoyed myself.
With spring 2009 on its way, Corbett Gardens is gearing up again to show off its tulips for two weeks during 25 September – 8 October 2009. For further details, visit the official Tulip Time website.
